Mindfulness Being mindful means you have complete focus on the present moment, you are not thinking about the past or the future, only the here and now. Practising mindfulness helps with building awareness of internal processes such as thoughts, feelings and body sensations while also strengthening your ability to get the space and clarity needed to respond to these processes in the most e ective way. Mindful Observation Take these steps: 1 Sit by a window and look at your surroundings. Pretend you are seeing this view for the first time. 2 Avoid labelling what you can see, e.g. building. Instead appreciate the range of colours, textures, shapes, shadows and patterns you can see. 3 Spend a few moments observing the movement of objects in your surroundings, and perhaps the stillness too. 4 If your thoughts begin to wander gently bring your attention back to the task. 5 Stop after a few minutes.
